ಹೊಸ ಕೃತಕ ಜೀವಿಯ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಗೆ ಕಳೆದ ಹದಿನೈದು ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಶ್ರಮಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ವೆಂಟರ್ ತಂಡ ಅದೆಷ್ಟೊ ತಪ್ಪು ಮಾರ್ಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ರಮಿಸಿ, ಹಿಂದಕ್ಕೆ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ ಇಟ್ಟು ಮತ್ತೆ ಹೊಸ ಮಾರ್ಗ ಅರಸುತ್ತ ಹೋಗಿ ಹಂತ ಹಂತವಾಗಿ ಇದುವರೆಗೆ ಸಾಗಿ ಬಂದಿದ್ದೇ ಒಂದು ದೀರ್ಘ ಧಾರಾವಾಹಿಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ನಿಸರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಬದುಕಿ ಬಾಳಬೇಕೆಂದಿದ್ದರೆ ‘ಹೋರಾಡು ಇಲ್ಲವೆ ಹೊರಡು’ ಎಂಬ ನಿಯಮವನ್ನು ಪಾಲಿಸಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ‘ಫೈಟ್ ಆರ್ ಫ್ಲೈಟ್’ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಹುಟ್ಟು-ಸಾವು ಎರಡೂ ವಿಧಿ ಲಿಖಿತ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಎರಡನ್ನೂ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನ ತನ್ನ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಣಕ್ಕೆ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಹವಣಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ವಿಧಿ ಸುಲಭಕ್ಕೆ ಬಗ್ಗುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ವಿಜ್ಞಾನಿ ಸೋಲೊಪ್ಪುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ.

ಟಾರ್ಚ್ ಬೆಳಕಿನಂತೆ ಈ ರಂಧ್ರದಿಂದ ಎಕ್ಸ್-ರೇ ಮಾದರಿಯ ಅಗೋಚರ ಕಿರಣಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊರಹೊಮ್ಮಿಸಬಹುದು. ಕಣ್ಣಿಗೆ ಕಾಣದ್ದರ ಪೋಟೊ ತೆಗೆಯಬಹುದು; ರೋಗಾಣುಗಳನ್ನು ಸಾಯಿಸಬಹುದು; ಸ್ವಸ್ಥ ಅಣುಗಳನ್ನೂ ವಿರೂಪಗೊಳಿಸಬಹುದು.
